Her first appearance was in a commercial for McDonald's in which she was also seen with John Goodman. She made her series debut in 1986 with The Ellen Burstyn Show. The character she played was central in a five-episode season in the show Murder She Wrote Coal Miner's Slaughter. Mullally was just six years old when she moved away from the city of her birth and moved to Oklahoma City. Her father is an Oklahoma native. Her heritage is English Irish and Scandinavian ancestry. From the age of six, she took ballet classes and was a dancer at Oklahoma City Ballet.
